There's a one-eyed yellow idol to the north of Khatmandu,
There's a little marble cross below the town;
There's a broken-hearted woman tends the grave of Mad Carew,
And the Yellow God forever gazes down.

He was known as "Mad Carew" by the subs at Khatmandu,
He was hotter than they felt inclined to tell;
But for all his foolish pranks, he was worshipped in the ranks,
And the Colonel's daughter smiled on him as well.

He had loved her all along, with a passion of the strong,
The fact that she loved him was plain to all.
She was nearly twenty-one and arrangements had begun
To celebrate her birthday with a ball.

He wrote to ask what present she would like from Mad Carew;
They met next day as he dismissed a squad;
And jestingly she told him then that nothing else would do
But the green eye of the little Yellow God.

On the night before the dance, Mad Carew seemed in a trance,
And they chaffed him as they puffed at their cigars:
But for once he failed to smile, and he sat alone awhile,
Then went out into the night beneath the stars.

He returned before the dawn, with his shirt and tunic torn,
And a gash across his temple dripping red;
He was patched up right away, and he slept through all the day,
And the Colonel's daughter watched beside his bed.

He woke at last and asked if they could send his tunic through;
She brought it, and he thanked her with a nod;
He bade her search the pocket saying "That's from Mad Carew,"
And she found the little green eye of the god.

She upbraided poor Carew in the way that women do,
Though both her eyes were strangely hot and wet;
But she wouldn't take the stone and Mad Carew was left alone
With the jewel that he'd chanced his life to get.

When the ball was at its height, on that still and tropic night,
She thought of him and hurried to his room;
As she crossed the barrack square she could hear the dreamy air
Of a waltz tune softly stealing thro' the gloom.

His door was open wide, with silver moonlight shining through;
The place was wet and slipp'ry where she trod;
An ugly knife lay buried in the heart of Mad Carew,
'Twas the "Vengeance of the Little Yellow God."

Once upon a time I bought a HIFI. It came in one self-contained box and had a record player, a cassette deck and a radio tuner. I took it home, put it on the sideboard, plugged in the speakers and the aerial (A piece of wire that I put up on the wall with drawing pins), plugged it into the mains and turned it on. It worked first time and continued to work faultlessly for the next five years until the cassette deck finally gave up the ghost. The question is: Why isn't all technology like that? Why do we have updates and need protection from spam, malware and spyware and viruses? Why do Microsoft sell something as basic as a word-processor but make it so overloaded with bloatware that it strains the memory and processor of even the newest computer? Why? Why? Why!!!

Whatever it had there was always something missing, the sense of wonder I got when I read, and re-read, The Da Vinci Code.

It is a pale shadow, a weak echo, of The Da Vinci Code. It had some nice moments but IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MORE.

You will need:

A stout wooden stick, sharpened at one end,
A glass or metal bowl,
A sturdy, powerful torch (Check it works!),
An ornamental dagger,
A quantity of blood (Yours, your worst enemy's etc.) in a bottle,
Six black candles and a box of matches,
An area of sand or sandy soil,
A suitable bag or hold-all for carrying some of the above.

What you are about to do will require you to summon Satan but, as you will see, the end justifies the means. Choose a night which astrologically corresponds to Mercury, the god of magic and which also coincides with a full moon. Put the wooden stick, the bowl, the bottle, the torch, the dagger (suitably sheathed), the matches and the candles in a suitable bag or hold-all. Make your way to the area of ground you have reconnoitred with everything you will need and you are ready to begin. Make sure that you have timed things so that you will have everything ready by 12 midnight.

Now is the time for you to summon Satan. The Internet is replete with information on the right words to say in order to do this, but I usually find you can't go wrong with the appropriate passage of the Necronomicon.

There are a number of caveats about doing this, but as far as I know this is the only way known to Man of getting Windows Vista to work as it should.

The four Humours

The idea of the four humours originated in the idea of the four classic elements: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Each of the four 'humours' was associated with one of the elements and a different personality type.

Blood was associated with the Sanguine personality type and the element Air. Yellow bile was associated with the Choleric personality type and the element Fire. Black bile was associated with the Melancholic personality type and the element Earth. Water was associated with the Phlegmatic personality type and the element Water. (I think you guessed that!)

Sanguine.

Sanguine indicates the personality of an individual with the temperament of blood, Night, the season of spring (wet and hot), and the classical element of air. A person who is sanguine is generally light-hearted, funloving, a people person, loves to entertain, spontaneous,leader abilities, and confident . However they can be arrogant, cocky, and indulgent. He/She can be day-dreamy and off-task to the point of not accomplishing anything and can be impulsive, possibly acting on whims in an unpredictable fashion. This also describes the manic phase of a bipolar disorder.

Choleric.

Choleric corresponds to the fluid of yellow bile, the season of summer (dry and hot), and the element of fire. A person who is choleric is a doer. They have a lot of ambition, energy, and passion, and try to instill it in others. They can dominate people of other temperaments, especially phlegmatic types. Many great charismatic military and political figures were cholerics. On the negative side, they are easily angered or bad-tempered. A person described as "bilious" is mean-spirited, suspicious, and angry. This, again, is an adaptation of the old humor theory "choleric."

Melancholic.

Melancholic is the personality of an individual characterized by black bile. A person who is a thoughtful ponderer has a melancholic disposition. Often very kind and considerate, melancholics can be highly creative – as in poetry and art - but also can become overly pre-occupied with the tragedy and cruelty in the world, thus becoming depressed. The temperament is associated with the season of fall/autumn (dry and cold) and the element earth. A melancholic is also often a perfectionist, being very particular about what they want and how they want it in some cases. This often results in being unsatisfied with one's own artistic or creative works and always pointing out to themselves what could and should be improved. This temperament describes the depressed phase of a bipolar disorder.

Phlegmatic.

A phlegmatic person is calm and unemotional. Phlegmatic means "pertaining to phlegm", corresponds to the season of winter (wet and cold), and connotes the element of water.

While phlegmatics are generally self-content and kind, their shy personality can often inhibit enthusiasm in others and make themselves lazy and resistant to change. They are very consistent, relaxed, rational, curious, and observant, making them good administrators and diplomats. Like the sanguine personality, the phlegmatic has many friends. However the phlegmatic is more reliable and compassionate; these characteristics typically make the phlegmatic a more dependable friend.

The Swastika - A potted history

When you see a swastika you tend to assiciate it with Nazi Germany, but perhaps you shouldn't. The swastika had been around for thousands of years before the Nazi's 'borrowed' it.

The swastika has been used in India and Asia for thousands of years, and found its way to some surprising places:

The ancient city of Troy, in the northwest of present-day Turkey.
The Iron Age Koban culture of the Caucasus in Asia minor.
On prehistoric Vinca artefacts from South-Eastern Europe.
Amongst the ancient Hittites who lived in the area of present day Syria.
In Ein Gedi, near Israel's Dead Sea.
In the Tang Dynasty of China.
In the 13th Century Amiens Cathedral in France.
In ancient Greek architectural designs.
On Native American Indian artefacts including those of the Navajo and Hopi.
On pre-Christian Anglo-Saxon and Druidic artefacts.

New World Order and all that

Does a MASTER PLAN to rule the world exist?

YES! It has been known and published in various forms since the Bavarian government circulated their famous report on the activities and plans of a secret organization called the Illuminati in the 1780's. It has to have been generations old in planning. George Washington spoke of a secret society called the "Illuminati" and this is what he had to say about this invisible power behind the throne which seeks to over-throw all forms of government so that they might inherit the earth:

"Reverend Sir: It was not my intention to doubt that the doctrine of the Illuminati and the principles of Jacobinism had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more satisfied of this fact than I am . . ." (U.S. Government Printing Office, 1941, Vol. 20)

In 1953 the California Senate Investigating Committee reported: "So-called modern Communism is apparently the same hypocritical and deadly conspiracy to destroy civilization that was founded by the secret order of the Illuminati in Bavaria on May 1, 1776, and that raised its hoary head in our colonies here as the critical period before the adoption of our Federal Constitution . . .

Since the official and highly organized founding of the Syndicate occurred in Europe in 1776, our isolated and founding nation was thus spared the main thrust of its tentacles until after our revolution occurred and our Constitution adopted."

Just three years after the Communists seized Russia, there was printed in the Illustrated Sunday Herald dated Feb. 8, 1920, the following statement by Winston Churchill about the Illuminati: "From the days of Sparticus - Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, to those of Trotsky, Bela-Kuhn, Rosa Luxembourg and Emma Goldman, this world-wide conspiracy has been steadily growing. This conspiracy played a definitely recognizable role in the tragedy for the French Revolution. It has been the main-spring of every subversive movement in the 19th Century; and now at last this band of extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their heads, and have become practically the undisputed masters of that enormous empire." In January 1789 the Marquis de Luchet, horrified by the impending onslaught by the Illuminati, published the following before the fall of the Bastile to warn the people:

"Deluded people; You must understand that there exists a conspiracy in favor of despotism and against liberty, incapacity against talent, of vice against virtue, of ignorance against light! It is formed in the depths of the most impenetrable darkness, a society is to rule the world, to appropriate the authority of sovereigns, to usurp their place . . . Every species of error which afflicts the earth, every half-baked idea, every invention serves to fit the doctrines of the Illuminati . . . I see that all great fundamentals which society has made good use of to retain the allegiance of man - such as religion and law - will be without power to destroy an organization which has made itself a cult, and put itself above all human legislation. Finally, I see the release of calamities who end will be lost in the night of ages, activities devours the entrails of the globe and escapes into the air with a violent and devastating explosion."

The founder of the Illuminati, Adam Weishaupt had this to say, "The most wonderful thing of all is that the distinguished Lutheran and Calvinist theologians who belong to our order really believe that they see in it the true and genuine sense of Christian religion. O mortal man, is there nothing you cannot be made to believe."

He went on to write, "The true purpose of the order was to rule the world. To achieve this it was necessary for the order to destroy all religions, overthrow all governments and abolish private property . . . The strength of our order lies in its concealment, let it never appear in any place in its own name, but always covered by another name, and another occupation."

But he’s just a little donkey, and he’s carried her all day.

The day is nearly over. The sun is sinking low,

But Mary is with child, and she needs a place to go.

HOLY FATHER REVISITS 2008 IN GREETING ROMAN CURIA

VATICAN CITY, 22 DEC 2008 (VIS) - Today in the Clementine Hall of the Vatican the Holy Father had his traditional meeting with the cardinals, archbishops, bishops, and members of the Roman Curia to exchange Christmas greetings.

The Pope began his address recalling some of the anniversaries commemorated in 2008, including 50 years from the death of Pius XII and John XXIII's ascension to the papal throne, 40 years from the publication of the encyclical 'Humanae Vitae' and 30 years from the death of its author, Paul VI, as well as the inauguration, on 28 June, of the Pauline Year at the Roman basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, participated in by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

"The Pauline Year", the Holy Father affirmed, "is a year of pilgrimage not only in the sense of travelling to the Pauline places, but above all of the heart's pilgrimage, with Paul, to Jesus Christ. Paul definitively teaches us that the Church is the Body of Christ, that the Head and the Body are inseparable, and that that it is not possible to love Christ without love for His Church and its living community".

Benedict XVI then referred to three other important events of the year including the World Youth Day in Australia, "a great celebration of the faith", his two apostolic trips to the United States and to France, and the Synod of Bishops at which "pastors from all over the world gathered around the Word of God, which was lifted up among them".

During the Synod, on the one hand, the Pope explained, "we are again made aware of what God, through His Word, addresses to each of us" and "we understand that His Word is present so that we might draw near to one another". On the other hand "this Word has shaped a common history and wants to continue doing so", which is why "we can understand it properly and fully only in the 'we' of the community instituted by God: ever aware that we can never exhaust it completely because it has something new to say to each generation. ... God, in the end, always speaks in the present".

During the synodal assembly it was very important, he added, "to experience that Pentecost exists even today in the Church -- ... the various modes of the experience of God and world and the wealth of cultures are present in her and only thus is revealed the vastness of human existence and, through it, the vastness of the Word of God".

The "presence of the Word of God, God Himself at this moment in history", has been the conducting thread of this year's pastoral visits, whose "true meaning can only be of serving this presence", the Holy Father emphasized. "In those occasions the Church", he observed, "makes the faith publicly perceptible through her, and therefore also the question of God".

Focusing on World Youth Day, which "each time becomes more an object for analysis, which attempts to understand this species, so to speak, of 'youth culture'", the Pope recalled that some analysts consider it a "type of rock festival, in the ecclesial sense, with the Pope as its 'star'". Nevertheless, it has to be kept in mind that these days "do not consist solely in that week that is seen by the rest of the world" and that "beforehand there is a long exterior and interior journey leading up to them. The Cross, accompanied by the image of the Mother of the Lord, makes a pilgrimage throughout the world. ... The meeting with the Cross, which is touched and carried by the youth, becomes an interior encounter with the One who died on the Cross for us". This encounter "awakens the memory of God who desired to become human and suffer with us in the depths of the youth. And we see the woman whom He gave us as Mother. The official Youth Days are just the culmination of a long journey".

The Pope continually referred to "four dimensions of the theme 'The Holy Spirit'". First of all, "the faith in the Creator Spirit", he said, " is an essential content of the Christian Creed. ... In our faith regarding creation we encounter the ultimate foundation of our responsibility toward the earth. It is not simply our property to be exploited according to our interests and desires. Rather, it is a gift of the Creator".

While highlighting that the Church "cannot and should not limit herself to transmitting just the message of salvation to her faithful", the Holy Father said that it must also "protect the human being against self-destruction. It is necessary to have something like an ecology of the human being, understood in the proper manner. It is not a surpassed metaphysics when Church speaks of the nature of the human being as man and woman, and demands that this order of creation be respected. ... That which is often expressed and understood by the term 'gender', is definitively resolved in the self-emancipation of the human being from creation and the Creator".

Secondly, he continued, the Spirit "also speaks, so to say, with human words, and has entered into history ... The Holy Spirit is the Word that we encounter in the writings of the Old and New Testaments. ... Reading Scripture together with Christ we learn to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit in human words and we discover the unity of the Bible".

Benedict XVI commented that the third dimension of pneumatology is "the inseparability of Christ and the Holy Spirit. This is seen in possibly the most beautiful way in St. John's narration of the first apparition of the Resurrected Christ to His disciples: He breathed on them and in this way gave them the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the breath of Christ".

"The fourth dimension", he said, "emerges spontaneously as the connection between the Spirit and the Church". In this context he recalled that St. Paul "presented the Church as the Body of Christ and thus as the organism of the Holy Spirit, in which the gifts of the Holy Spirit join individuals into a single living being".

The Pope stressed that "the theme of 'The Holy Spirit' ... makes the entire breadth of the Christian faith visible. It is a breadth, which from the responsibility for creation and for the existence of the human being in harmony with creation, leads through the themes of Scripture and salvation history to Christ. From Christ it continues on to the living community of the Church in its orders and responsibilities as well as its immensity and freedom, which are expressed as much in the multiplicity of charisms as in the image of Pentecost with its multitude of languages and cultures".

"The Holy Spirit grants us joy. He is joy. ... This joy is the expression of happiness, of being in harmony with oneself, which is only possible if one is in harmony with God and His creation".

The Pope concluded expressing his wish at the end of this year, "that happiness be always alive in us and thus shine forth to the world in its tribulations".
